Beginnings

The Off Grid Community Water Foundation began as a grassroots response to a water crisis in the Sangre de Cristo Ranches near Fort Garland, Colorado.

In early summer 2025, a group of neighbors came together after access to hauled water was unexpectedly cut off—revealing just how vulnerable off-grid communities can be without reliable infrastructure.

Our Mission

Our mission is to ensure that off-grid residents in the San Luis Valley have consistent, reliable access to water—regardless of income, location, or circumstance.

Our foundation is a group of dedicated individuals fighting to secure water rights for ourselves and our community. We are committed to building long-term, community-driven solutions that support resilience, dignity, and self-sufficiency.

Strategy

Our approach is rooted in sustainability and reinvestment. A locally operated water delivery service, led by foundation President Dudney Donovan, helps fund the nonprofit’s work.

Through an ongoing combination of earned revenue, grants, and public support in the form of donations, the foundation is able to expand access to water while building long-term community resilience.
